[www.inewsguyana.com] – Nineteen – year – old Lorenzo Peters of Essequibo Coast, accused of two counts of the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, made his first court appearance before City Magistrate Judy Latchman, where he pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that on November 15, 2015 at Devil’s Hoe Landing, Cuyuni River, he was found in possession of 2013 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
It is also alleged that on the same day, at the same location, he had in his possession 129 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. His lawyer told the court that Peters is a boat owner, who would usually rent boat engines to persons in the interior.
According to the lawyer, on the day in question, his client was hired by a man called Devo Raganauth, to transport his goods to an interior location. At night fall, Raganauth rented a room for the two to spend the night.
Sometime later, when Raganauth was not in the room, the police went to the room where Peters was and conducted a search on his person and the room and found nothing.
The Attorney further explained that it was the following morning while Peters was unloading the contents from the boat with Raganauth nearby, the police who once again approached him, asked if the items were his, to which he replied in the negative.
The court heard that Raganauth ran away when he saw he police talking with Peters.
Bail was refused and he is scheduled to make his next court appearance on December 7, before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
