[www.inewsguyana.com] – Several of the country’s hidden talents will show their skill on Friday, May 2 when the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) stage their Novices Championship.
The event is being dubbed ‘Nuff Cuff Injection’, and according to the Association, a team of five boxers will compete under the banner of the New Opportunity Corps (NOC).
President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle said that he is pleased to see the team back in competition, adding that the facility offers more than just education.
“We wish to use this as an opportunity to let persons know that boxing is a sport that can be used to rehabilitate persons within our society,” Ninvalle said.
Andrew Newton, Niko Jodha, Kalvin Barry, Joel Bess and Samuel Forde were in training with the National Coach Wincell Thomas. Technical Director of the GBA, Terrence Poole, said that the Body will be looking to introduce the sport to several areas around the country and as such, the venue of competitions will change.
The event is expected to commence at 19:00hrs at the California Square, East Ruimveldt. It will feature teams from Georgetown, Berbice, Linden and Essequibo.
