[www.inewsguyana.com] – Harish Gokul also called Terry Gokul of Middle Road La Penitence, Georgetown, was today, Wednesday April 9, sentenced to a total of six years imprisonment by Magistrate Ann McLennan on two counts of robbery under arms.
The 18-year-old Pork Knocker had pleaded not guilty to both charges, one of which noted that on Tuesday, December 4, 2013 at Albertown, Georgetown, being armed with a gun he robbed Jean Melville, a gold miner of two shoulder bags, 30 ounces of raw gold, two gold rings, one pair gold earring, and two pounds of quicksilver among other items together valued $9.714M.
Particulars of the other charge stated that on the same day at Albertown, Georgetown, also being armed with a gun he robbed Carlotta Melville of one shoulder bag, one blackberry cellular phone, one Guyana Passport and US$100 US, together valued $360,000.
The Prosecution was led by Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones and based on the evidence provided to Court, Gokul was found guilty as charged.
Magistrate McLennan took several factors into consideration before sentencing Gokul, which include the seriousness and prevalence of the offence in today’s society.
As such, he was sentenced to three years imprisonment on each charge, which will run consecutively.
