[www.inewsguyana.com] – Eighteen – year – old Nakash Persaud was today (June, 13) remanded to prison until July 2 by Magistrate Rabindranauth Sighn when he appeared at the Springland’s Magistrates’ Court charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving .The teen was not required to plead to the indictable charges.
However, he pleaded not guilty to seven other charges which include failure to render assistance, and failure to stop at an accident and drinking and driving. The man is being represented by Attorney-at-law Rodwell Jagmohan.
The young man was the driver of the vehicle that killed three persons following an accident on the Phillipi Road, Corentyne Berbice on Wednesday night.
Dead are 18 – year – old Latoya Bagot, her sister, Malika Bagot, and their 6 – year – old niece, Shamain Bagot.
The trio was heading to a relative’s house on the Phillipi Road, Corentyne when they were struck down by Persaud, who sped away from the scene.
Eyewitnesses told iNews that before the driver slammed into the sisters, he struck down a pedal cyclist. He then struck the sisters, fled the scene and slammed into another pedestrian further up the Corentyne.
He was later arrested by the police and taken to the 51 police station. Relatives of the girls are crying out for justice as they try to come to grip with three deaths in one family.
