[www.inewsguyana.com] – A conductor of Lot 43 Princess Street, Lodge was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for attempting to commit a felony.
Kelvin Washington was found guilty as charged after the trial was conducted before Magistrate Judy Latchman on Monday, December 2.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt and a number of witnesses were called to give evidence in the matter.
The case was first called before Magistrate Faith McGusty on August 27 and the defendant was remanded to prison.
Particulars of the offence stated that on August 22 at Georgetown, the unrepresented defendant attempted to steal one shoulder bag and its contents from the person of Dawn Murray.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. It was alleged that the virtual complainant was walking in Georgetown when she felt a hand on her bag. She turned around, caught the defendant red-handed, and raised an alarm.
A police officer dressed in plainclothes gave chase and apprehended the suspect.
