Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident involving two students attached to the Institute of Business Education (IBE) on the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, which resulted in a 15-year-old being injured and his 16-year-old attacker being taken into Police custody.
According to information received by C Division (East Coast) Commander Calvin Brutus, the incident occurred some time after 15:00h on Wednesday.
This publication was told that the victim and his assailant have had several misunderstandings in the past. However, on the afternoon in question, another heated argument ensued when the two came face to face in the vicinity of a shop in Lusignan.
This resulted in a brief scuffle between the two teens, after which the 16-year-old reportedly whipped out a “razor” and cut the 15-year-old across his chest.
Eyewitnesses who were nearby reportedly raised an alarm and the relevant authorities were contacted after the victim began to bleed profusely.
While it is not yet known how severe the student’s injuries were, the C Division Commander confirmed that the injured teen was taken to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The 16-year-old was arrested and his parents were contacted as investigations continue.
