A 16-year-old resident of Belle West, Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD) has been arrested while his two accomplices managed to escape shortly after they robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint.
The incident occurred at around 20:00h on Tuesday at Duncan Street, Sisters Village, WBD.
The 25-year-old taxi driver operates from Vreed-en-Hoop to Wales. On the day in question, he picked up the three suspects in front of the Stanleytown junction to take them to Sisters Village.
As neared their destination, the three thieves posing as passengers held the taxi driver at knifepoint and instructed him to drive to Duncan Street.
There, the trio relieved the man of $27,000 in cash and a watch valued $5,500. The perpetrators then made good their escape on foot.
However, the victim gave chase behind them and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, the 16-year-old.
A search was carried out on the teen and $8,360 in cash was found. The victim then took the suspect to Wales Police Station where he was handed over to the police and he was placed into custody and the cash was lodged.
Checks were made for the other suspects but they were not found.
