A student of the Friendship Secondary School, East Bank Demerara (EBD), is now struggling for his life after he was struck by a motorcyclist in the vicinity of his school’s compound yesterday.

The 12-year-old boy, Jonathan Ashby, of the Diamond New Housing Scheme, is presently in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where doctors are battling to save his life.

accidentReports are that around 11:30h on Friday, Ashby along with some friends were standing on the roadway close to his school’s location when a male biker struck him down.

An alarm was raised and students nearby went into panic mode as the injured lad was promptly rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre (DDC). He was subsequently transferred to the GPHC for emergency medical attention due to the severity of his injuries.

INews understands that by the time Ashby arrived at the GPHC he was said to have been in an unconscious state and there was some delay in him receiving medical treatment in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, the person who was riding the motorcycle at the time of the accident is alleging that Ashby and his friends were on the EBD public road “playing” when one of the friends pushed him out on the road.

As a result of this, the lad was hit down, the motorcyclist allegedly told investigators. He is presently in police custody where he is said to be assisting with investigations into the matter.
