Eleven (six females and five males) inmates escaped from the New Opportunity Corps (NOC), Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, on Sunday around 17:15h but were apprehend shortly after.
This is according to the Police who said that the “two females were recaptured shortly after and the others were recaptured about 06:00h this morning not far from the facility.”
This publication was informed that the 11 inmates escaped by stealing the keys to the facility and unlocking the doors.
Just recently, two juvenile inmates had escaped (on July 24 ) from the facility and broke and entered the home of Member of Parliament Haimraj Rajkumar and stole boots, perfumes and clothing valued $129, 000.
The teens, a 16-year-old of West Coast Berbice and a 17-year-old of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara were recaptured on July 26 and pleaded guilty to their crimes in court.
The presiding Magistrate had ordered that a probation report be prepared before a sentence is handed down.
It was only in February of this year that two other juveniles from the institution escaped.
