President David Granger, yesterday, joined Ms. Ina Holder, aunt of Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Noel Holder, and her relatives to celebrate her 108th birthday.
The President presented Ms. Holder, fondly known as ‘Aunty Ina’, with a gift basket and wished her continued good health.
The centenarian was born on May 20, 1908 at Lot P Durban Street, Georgetown to Mr. Claude Vernon and Ms. Alice Clementina (nee Bertyne) Holder.
Aunt Ina secured employment at the Argosy Company, which published a daily newspaper. However, she was determined to improve her fortunes and obtained qualifications in shorthand and typing and was subsequently employed at Bookers Brothers, McConnell and Company Limited as a General Clerk.
Aunt Ina was soon promoted and became her Department’s Telephone Receptionist as her voice was reputed to be distinctive and esteemed in and out of the organisation. In 1966 she retired from Bookers Drug Company.
Ina Beryl Holder is currently the eldest member of the Anglican Diocese in Guyana. (GINA)
