[www.inewsguyana.com] – Daren John of First Street Alberttown, Georgetown was on Wednesday, September 30 remanded to prison by City Magistrate Ann McLennan on an unlawful possession of firearm and ammunitions charge.
The 23 – year – old father of one pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 28 at Brickdam Police Station, he had in his possession had in his possession a .38 revolver with 6 matching rounds, four 9mm. rounds and two .32 rounds, without being the
holder of an firearm license.
According to the Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, the motorist was stopped by traffic ranks on Thomas Street, Georgetown to conduct a breathalyzer test, when the officer felt an object in the defendant waste.
Then Court heard that John ran back to his car to get away from police when they became suspicious. However, he was later intercepted by ranks on patrol after the traffic rank radioed for backup and was taken to the Brickdam Station.
It was there that the illegal weapon was unearthed in his car.
Bail was opposed by Corporal Jones on the grounds of the gravity and nature attached to the charge. Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to October 12.
