[www.inewsguyana.com] – Beverley Drake of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board spoke on the role of aircraft accident and incident investigations in enhancing aviation safety at the recently concluded aviation conference held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
According to the US Embassy in Guyana, Ms. Drake, an accomplished pilot and native of Guyana who immigrated to the U.S., has served with the NTSB for 24 years and has investigated over 300 small, large-scale, and high-profile aircraft accidents.
The release noted that she served as the Witness Group Chairman for USAir Flight 427 that crashed in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and worked on the reconstruction of TWA 800, a Boeing 747 aircraft that exploded shortly after takeoff in New York in 1996. She is currently Program Manager in the Office of Industry and Government Affairs at the NTSB in Washington, DC.
“At the conference Ms. Drake presented lessons learned from some of the accidents the NTSB has investigated, including those in the U.S. with mechanical issues and incidents that have taken place in hostile environments. The presentation brought awareness to some of the safety concerns addressed by the NTSB,” the release stated.
This includes the Mountain Safety Alert that the NTSB issued to help pilots, engineers, mechanics, and ground crews become more aware of mechanical accidents that sometimes occur after aircraft come out of maintenance.
It was further noted that Ms. Drake shared information from investigations in Alaska, and in other locations, with the goal of helping Guyanese officials improve flying safety and to help Guyanese aviation officials lower aviation accident rates.
