[www.inewsguyana.com] – The annual Rockstone Fish Festival is slated to commence on October 26 and 27 with a number of events planned, which includes camping, fishing, bird-watching, or exploring the Essequibo.
This event is held at Rockstone, the small fishing community 18 miles from Linden, Region 10, Upper Demerara/Berbice and is aimed at promoting community based tourism, generating income and economic opportunities for the community, while showcasing the rich culture of the people.
Being the only fish festival in Guyana, the event has attracted over 5000 people over the years.
Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Indranauth Haralsingh described it as unique event, in an indigenous community away from the city, with family-oriented activities this year.
Haralsingh highlighted that Rockstone and the environment offer quite a lot of attractions such as the wildlife and the nearby Golden Beach, and Gluck Island.
Activities include fishing, catching and deboning competition, cooking competition, individual paddle boat and cycle races, canoe tug-of-war, watermelon competition and kids’ art and essay competitions.
There will be also be cultural activities in the form of dance and song which will be performed by local artistes, and camping accommodation for the entire family.
