[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Region 9 office is vehemently denying reports that President Donald Ramotar was barred from holding a meeting in Moco Moco village on Tuesday, February 18.
iNews understands that PPP Supervisor in Region 9, Desmond Kissoon has explained that due to a previously planned meeting between the community and the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs a decision was taken to reschedule the President’s engagement.
According to reports, the previously planned meeting concerned the LCDS-funded Amerindian Land Titling Programme implemented by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
He reportedly clarified: “On account of this the Toshao requested that the meeting with His Excellency be rescheduled within 2 days in order to have maximum attendance and support from residents who would have earlier been in the fields.”
iNews had reported that the Village Council prevented President Ramotar and his team from entering the village because proper procedures were not followed prior to the visit.
Toshao, Mark George said that the Council received late notice from Mr Kissoon. The Toshao explained that the Amerindian Act clearly stipulates that the Council needs one week’s notice before such a visit.
“10 ‘o clock on Monday morning I get a phone call… Mr Kissoon from Lethem…all the guy said is that the President will be visiting your village tomorrow at 5,” Toshao George explained.
He further noted that the Council would have made an exception if a written letter was submitted two days before the intended visit by the Head of State.
