[www.inewsguyana.com] – Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds performing the duties of President on Wednesday (December 11) accepted letters of credence from His Excellency, Lehebib Abderahaman Didi as the non-resident Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic to Guyana.

Didi is the first Ambassador to be appointed to Guyana since the two countries established diplomatic relations.  The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a partially recognized state that claims sovereignty over the entire territory of Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony.

The Acting President during the accreditation ceremony said it was a pleasure to accept the letters of credence and expressed appreciations and kind greeting to the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

According to Hinds Guyana fully supports the country’s fight for territorial integrity/sovereignty. He added that the decision to establish relations and accredit an ambassador is testimony of the support each country is prepared to offer each other.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Didi said his country has always looked to Guyana as a great defender of liberty and democracy. He is hopeful that his presence here raises awareness in that regard.

Didi also added that he looks forward to working in close collaboration with the Guyanese authorities to promote and consolidate the existing friendship. He said he also looks forward to the assistance of his Guyanese counterparts in this regard.
